Gee and Jerome found me on TikTok in January 2024. They saw how much I LOOOOOVVVVVVEE to travel and really wanted to do a shoot at a national park. It felt like their vibe, so they booked a couples session with me! That’s right, this was initially a couple’s session. A few months later (and before our session) I got the CUTEST video Gee and Jerome at the Golden Gate Bridge where they had just gotten ENGAGED. So, this session ended up being their engagement photos!

Initially, they weren’t sure which national park they wanted to shoot at. We knew one in California, where they live (I am based in Grand Rapids, MI), which narrowed it down a bit. We tossed around a few ideas, but there were still quite a few to choose from. So, I went all research psycho mode. I looked into the details of four different California national parks. I compiled info on each of their characteristics, how busy they tend to be, accessibility, etc. It actually was a shit ton of research. I love doing location research, though. And doing location research for a national park? Shut up.
Because I am actually insane (really just because I love what I get to do so much that I have an insane research psycho mode), I opened up Google Slides and made a presentation with all my info to help us choose. I showed Gee and Jerome my presentation and eventually we settled on Sequoia! I was so happy with Sequoia. I’d never been before and we all know I love an adventure.
So, I booked the trip! I flew in the day before our shoot and met Gee and Jerome for the first time that next day! I was near exploding with excitement. It was one of my first real travel shoots and I’d traveled alone for the first time. I was so happy to be experiencing all of it. We were kind of instant BFFs which made this trip all that much more fun for us.

I kind of had a path in my mind (based on my deep Sequoia research) of all the spots I wanted to stop at. Our first stop was THE trees. Ya know, the big ass trees everyone goes to Sequoia to see? The vibes were immaculate. The trees are kind of surreal. It was almost like we were at nature’s playground as we moved around and took these photos that illustrate Gee and Jerome’s story. The looks and the laughs. The standing at parallel trees. It was such a unique experience to explore the park from an artist’s perspective. It’s like I was given this prompt (Gee and Jerome and their story and the emotion of it all) and this beautiful section of our planet for a moment in time and just went to WORK. A part of my heart belongs to getting to do that all the time. The fact that this section of the planet happened to be Sequoia National Park was just the cherry on top for me.
Gee brought this CUTE picnic set up (picnic at the national park??!?!! ur joking.) We found a little spot in the woods and spread out the blanket and… come onnnnnnnnnn. It’s so fricken cute. They poured some wine and snacked a bit while I snapped away. The light streaming through those trees was just delicious. We adventured around the park, having a ball and them generally being all cute and in love.

Then we watched the sun set at this mountain lookout. I hadn’t really been expecting the view (ironic given all of that research I had done), and it kind of took my breath away. It was so beautiful. We enjoyed the sunset and that was a wrap on our shoot!
Gee and Jerome are so cool and chill (and kind of badass for booking Sequoia National Park engagement photos) and they made this trip even more exciting which I didn’t even know was possible. National Park engagement photos are kind of my ultimate dream.
I think if you are an adventurous or outdoorsy kind of couple, your engagement photos should reflect that! You are kinda the only one holding you back from having engagement photos done at a national park. You are kinda the only one keeping you from any of your dreams sometimes. If your dream photos are Sequoia National Park engagement photos… you gotta ask yourself why you CAN’T have that dream. And then realize there is no real reason that outweighs the potential. And thennnnn maybe consider taking me with you and we can all live the dream together.

All in all, I am so happy that I went to meet, you know, complete strangers across the country because of a TikTok video I had made. Sometimes I have to remind myself that this is real life.
